Even in the depths of winter, the City of Hudson is alive within the halls of its top notch cultural institutions. This month, perennial favorites like performances at the nearby Fisher Performing Arts Center, and the raucous scene at Club Helsinki continue to enthrall. More family-friendly events are held at Olana, where the view from the top is etched into the American psyche.
Below is a list of ten events this February 2015 that we would like to share with you:
20,000 Days On Earth
Critical acclaim has been lauded on this movie that deals with the life of musician Nick Cave. The movie blends fact with fiction, tracing the life of the musician.
Perhaps Charlie chaplin’s best known movie, Modern Times is a timeless classic, and a rare treat from TSL, which usually fore goes the classics for modern Indie films.
Snowshoe Walk at Olana – February 28th, 1 – 3pm
The countryside is packed heavy with the many snowfalls we have had, and is perfect for a snowshoeing outing. Olana, as usual, serves as the perfect backdrop, with sweeping views of the valley floor, the majestic red and gold towers of the mansion, and the broad, beautifully articulated landscape.
Voodoo Orchestra North
February 13, 9pm
Local and world famous jazz musicians gather to play renditions of the classic album by Miles Davis, Bitches Brew. The venue at Club Helsinki could not have been built better for a jazz concert. Soft candlelight at auditorium seated round tables flanking a small dance floor and a wide stage. In the back, a fully stocked bar, and a critically acclaimed gourmet restaurant.
“Bacchantes and Bivalves” Exhibition opening reception: February 7, 6-8pm
Located on Warren Street, this mainstay of the Hudson art scene is going to be hosting their newest exhibition by artist Thomas Michelli.
The American Symphony Orchestra – February 6-7th, 8pm
In what has become one of the American Symphony Orchestra’s most frequent destinations, the Fisher Center is truly an amazing place. This time around, the Symphony will be playing classics by Tchaikovsky, and Haydn.
Sunday Salons – February 15
Local artists and creative thinkers gather for presentations, wine and cheese, and salon discussions as sponsored by the Thomas Cole foundation, in conjunction with the Olana trust.
Dan Tepfberg’s Goldberg Variations – February 14th, 7pm
From The New York Times:
“This is no stunt, but a fresh musical exploration. Mr. Tepfer invites you to hear this masterpiece through his ears. I bet Bach would recognize a kindred spirit in Mr. Tepfer.”
This Valentines Day benefit concert will forward proceeds to support Classics on the Hudson, an ongoing classical music sponsorship program sponsored by the Hudson Opera house,
Queen of Serpents Fashion Exhibition – February 22nd, 4pm
Works by designer Vilma Mare as a study of the cultural studious ness of ethnic minorities regarding nature, and the respect for nature held by cultural trends within ethnic minorities,
Cityscapes – January 28 – March 8
In what has become the most consistently high quality gallery in town, the Haddad gallery wows us again with their latest exhibition: Cityscapes. Oil paintings depicting the broad range of urban setting in various styles evoke the geometrical idealism of shopper, and the ruminating existentialism of the Beatniks.
Cross country Skiing and Sledding
Hosted as long as winter is in full blast, go cross country skiing through the gorgeous outdoor sculpture garden at OMI.
