Hudson Valley EventsThe Christmas season is winding down and it’s time to start looking forward to the new year! Unwind from the stress of the holiday season as you make your way to Hudson. We’ve compiled a list of some great Hudson Valley events in January 2013!

January 1

34th Annual New Year’s Day Auction

Head to 266 County Route 7A on New Year’s Day in Copake, New York. You’ll find 18th and 19th century furniture, artwork, folk art, period accessories, china, glass, stoneware, primitives and more. It’s the premier Americana Auction of the year!

January 1

New Moon Walk

Test your night vision and sharpen your senses with a New Moon’s Walk. What better way to celebrate the New Year than experiencing the evening landscape without the aid of moonlight! The event takes place at 5 p.m. at the Round Ball Mountain Conservation Area. They recommend dressing in layers. Also, don’t forget your flashlight.

“Compass Points” Photographer Exhibit

Visit Jeff Levin’s exhibit to enjoy local beauty or exotic faces and places. The 30+ works are a culmination of his recent arrival on the art scene. The exhibit is on display at the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce, located at 1 North Front Street in Hudson.

January 10

Martin Sexton

Martin Sexton is a singer-songwriter and a longtime favorite of Club Helsinki audiences. He will perform a blend of folk, soul, jazz, gospel and pop. It starts at 9 o’clock. Get your tickets early.

January 17

Moonrise Snowshoe Hike

Hike Mud Creek’s trails as the nearly full moon rises. Moon gaze while listening to the sounds of nocturnal critters. There will be hot cocoa and tea provided afterwards and a limited number of snowshoes will be available. The hike will leave from Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center in Ghent, New York.

January 18

CCCA Gallery Exhibition

The first show of 2014, Nature Morte et Vivant, will kick off on January 18. The works will express still life, florals/plants and botanicals in all media. There will be an opening reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Columbia County Council on the Arts Gallery, located at 209 Warren Street in Hudson.

January 25

Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Winter Cabaret

Club Helsinki Hudson will play host to the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. The winter cabaret will feature a variety of circus, theater, comedy and musical entertainers. This is an adult show so be sure to leave the kiddos behind. They’ll include a new lineup and acts like trapeze, contortion, acrobatic balance, sword swallowing, juggling, physical comedy and oddball novelty turns.

My Cousin Rachel

The Ghent Playhouse at 6 Town Hall Place presents My Cousin Rachel. It’s a mystery that will unwind with all the twists and turns, intrigue, suspense and romance of the classic Daphne du Maurier novel.
